Explore the unique village of Kohukohu.
Let the 'KOHUKOHU HISTORIC VILLAGE WALK' brochure lead you along the beautiful historic buildings, important heritage sites, and picturesque scenery.

We are within a 10 minute walk to the village centre, where you can enjoy tasty meals in the cafes, takeaway / restaurant, or pub. Visit the local photo and art galleries and the library with a collection of old village photographs from the time when Kohukohu was the third largest town north of Auckland.

Bring your boat or kayak and enjoy the scenery from the water

Take a trip to historic Rawene as a passenger on the ferry (15-minute journey), have a stroll, visit the museum and galleries, and walk amongst the mangroves on the boardwalk over the water

or

Take your vehicle and find yourself amazed by the fact that, in whatever direction you go, you will find something different and unique within an hours drive; from a beautiful harbour with big sand dunes to ancient kauri forest with gigantic 2000 year old Kauri trees to world-unique boulders, the 90 mile beach, wild west coast beaches, or the gentler east coast beaches. You will find all this at our doorstep, inviting you to go on nice day trips and explore; maybe even have a quad bike tour or a horseback ride.

To the southwest:

Visit Opononi and across the harbour you can sandboard down the dunes

Have a look at the Harbour entrance and take a walk down to the west coast beach or go for a trekking tour and let a horse take you

Tane Mahuta, the giant kauri tree in the Waipoua Forest, is only a 40 minute drive away

Try the puzzles and solve the maze at Labyrinth Woodwork & Maze Museum

To the Southeast:

Explore the 'Wairere Boulders Nature Park', with world unique basalt boulder formations

Visit Mangungu Mission House, where 63 chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi

Maybe you would like to have a dip in the Ngawha Thermal Pools

To the East:

In the Kauri Sanctuary in Omahuta Forest you have the opportunity to walk in a quiet surrounding amongst the giant kauri trees, a bit away from the usual tourist track

Take a day trip to the Bay of Islands, swim with dophins, and have lunch in historic Russell

To the North:

Drive the scenic route to Ahipara and Ninety Mile Beach for a long walk at the beach or be more adventurous and hire a quad bike, book a tour, or hire some equipment like blokarts, surfboards, mountain bikes, boogie boards 

In a nice day-trip you can make your way up to Cape Rianga to watch the 2 oceans meet

Or turn east and make a loop tour along the east coast beaches

Heading West:

Explore the wild west with the free running horses on the beach, pick mussels off the rocks, swim at low tide in the rock pools, and enjoy empty wild beaches.

Maybe treat yourself to an exhilarating dune buggy ride to explore the hidden sand dune treasures

On the way you can visit the church in Motuti which houses the remains of the French Bishop Pompallier, the first Roman Catholic missionary
